Story Synopsis

On the last Saturday of the 1948 summer before beginning the sixth grade, 11-year-old Kath senses that her mother's desire to cut off her pigtails is meant to change more than her hair.

Until now, Kath could be all the things she wanted to be – pirate captain, Tarzan, marble champion.

Her father, who taught her to play baseball and to build a clubhouse, encourages her individuality. Other people in her small Arkansas town want Kath to fit into their idea of proper behavior for a girl

SUMMER’S END presents a timeless story of an individual’s struggle with family and societal pressures for conformity.

The film speaks to everyone who has gone through growing-up pains and to young people who face questions about their own place within the world.
